Using The NRSWorked Example

This example leads you through a demonstration of the process for determining NRS indicators of competence for reporting purposes.

For the purpose of this demonstration the following assessment task will be examined:

Assessment task:

Completes a workplace form relevant to own job, eg writes name and signs initials against process to indicate completion of a workplace task.

Assessee is required to read a checklist containing work process and quantity information, write own name and sign in the appropriate section of the form to indicate completion of a workplace task. The assessment task requires making connections between own work performance and the purpose of the text, and the use of familiar whole numbers.

Characteristics of the workplace form:

Written form with predictable structure and familiar vocabulary which may be memorised.

Vocabulary is restricted to familiar, routine workplace terminology.

Work process expressed in single words or simple phrases.

Conditions of performance:

Using similar forms as models is the accepted practice.

Purpose of the form is clear and understood by all parties.

What type of indicator is suggested by the task? Is it primarily a reading, writing, oral communication, learning strategies or numeracy activity or does it cross a number of these modes?

In this example you will need to consult reading, writing and numeracy indicator information. Provided you look at all of these areas, it is not important in which order you work.
