Teach the sequence of
activities
Most decisions were made by both tutors and students and by the last week of our short experiment students were making most of the picking, packing, sales and accounting decisions. There is constant planning and evaluation of goals on a weekly basis based on the foundation of the seven learning outcomes which encompass numerous smaller tasks. Pre-teaching of skills occurs as the need arises. Students and tutors will make these decisions in tandem. Initial planning and discussion was undertaken with a large group of students who worked in groups to discuss ideas, issues and problems associated with mushroom growing. Not all of these students took part in the production and sales of the mushrooms their input was invaluable in terms of their creativity and the concerns that they raised. Pathways proformas are also plotted so that a clear vision of the students activities and assessments can be progressively seen. Students also complete self-assessments at all stages of the project referring to their language, literacy and numeracy achievements, their learning strategies and their workplace practices.
