Initial Assessment

An initial interview and assessment is conducted to find out if the potential learner will benefit from the range of adult language, literacy and numeracy courses conducted by the Institute, and if not, what other programs in the local community they might be referred to. Assessment tasks have been prepared. Generally such assessments are predictive events and cannot, because of the lack of time, provide opportunities for the student to demonstrate all competencies across all streams of the Certificates of General Education for Adults. Such assessments, however, do give enough information from self assessment and information about background and goals for assessors to make a decision about appropriate placement in programs.

Organizing the initial assessment.

Prepare an interview schedule and assessment tasks for placement in Certificates of General Education for Adults

Conduct the interview
Prepare the Documentation

Prepare a report on the placement interview, attaching any assessment tasks undertaken with annotations by the assessor to the level of performance. Make recommendation on placement and inform relevant staff. Inform the student and proceed with enrolment process.
