Developing the curriculum and assessment processes

Develop learning strategies

The program was developed using the following references as guides:

  • Certificate in Aboriginal Health Workers program

  • the Health Workers Orientation program

  • LIT 122, a 40 hour vocational module of Certificate in Vocational Access

  • workplace texts and documents

The program was developed to include on and off air tasks, a choice of tasks to meet the requirements of the learning outcomes and a range of relevant underpinning skill development tasks. This allowed for the customising of the program to meet individual needs while maintaining the consistency required to meet the learning outcomes of the module selected from the Certificate in Vocational Access. The recent availability of the NRS as a tool for assessing good practice in assessment, curriculum development, delivery and evaluation allows the program to be evaluated against national standards.

Adopt appropriate assessment process

Assessment tasks were developed to provide the opportunity for assessment both on line and off line. A range of tasks to assess achievement of learning outcomes was offered. This allowed for students to self-select tasks that were appropriate to their learning needs.
