Engaging Young People in Literacy
Tracey Fenton and Rebecca Lienert, Activate Training Centre, Prahran, Victoria
(
These case studies were developed as part of the ANTA Adult Literacy National Project in 1999 by Rosa McKenna and Lynne Fitzpatrick of Communication in Education and Training Pty Ltd.)

Activate Training Centre provides employment and training services in a variety of areas.  We have been involved in Labour Market Programs since their inception and believe that long-term employment opportunities evolve when training is provided.  Our employment programs offer support to both employers and employees.  Activate Training Centre runs a variety of training programs that involve returning to work, planning for further study, realising potential and developing career paths that support young people and those who are long term unemployed.

When Activate Training Centre was successful in winning a tender for the Literacy and Numeracy Programme it fitted with this overall philosophy and we continued to develop strong links with local youth networks.
